SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 20, 2015.-
Honduras outdueled Belize in three sets 25-12, 25-23, 25-22 in
the first match of day five of competition at the XI Girls’ U-18
Central American Championship.
Honduras had to work hard in their defense to defeat Belize,
with tight scores in the last two sets.
Nathaly Pérez of Honduras led her team with 8 points, followed
by teammate Estefany Godoy with 7. For Belize, Mya Musa scored
11 points and captain Juel Lewis 10.
Honduras led in serves 9-4; Honduras scored 39 points on Belize
error, while they committed 23.
Rut Aguilar captain of Honduras said “it was a good game, Belize
played very well and so did we. We had many errors but we were
able to pull off the win 3-0, we failed the most in reception”.
Juel Lewis captain of Belize spoke about her team’s performance
“we wanted to play well, we came out to win but we couldn’t
finish on top, Honduras played very well”.
Marcos Tejeda, Head coach for Honduras said “I believe we had
too many errors, more than they did, but we were able to take
advantage in crucial points; we made some changes that were
positive and the team with less errors won”.
Coach Albert Humes expressed his disappointment with his
gestures, he said “first Honduras did what was needed and we did
nothing, we lost the match by losing focus”.
Honduras stands in third place, better than Belize and El
Salvador, and has the possibilities to move up in second place
with 17 points. |
