TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, December 6, 2014. - Honduras was able to overcome Belize’ offensive line with a victory 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-22) at the closing match of day two at the XVIII Men’s Central American Cup.

Honduras used well all their skills to stop the Belizean offensive line. Honduras stands with 2-0 win-loss record and ten points, while Belize drops to 1-1, staying with three points.

Honduras was more effective than Belize with a huge advantage in kills 42-27, a 9-7 advantage in blocking and 1-0 in serves. There was little difference in unforced errors, Honduras (24) and Belize (23).

Outside hitter Evans Torres led Honduras with 14 points and opposite player Jorge Medina scored 12 points. Belize had in Karym Coleman its top scorer with 13 points.

Evans Torres captain of Honduras indicated: “Despite that Membreño is not playing, our second setter distributed well the game. Belize is very capable, they have trained well and they have players with good height, but we proved that Honduras has worked hard for the tournament.”

Elton Anderson Belizean captain said: “It was a very good game; we had a few mistakes. Honduras did their homework on us; tomorrow we’ll come out better”. Speaking about the difference from yesterdays match against Panama, he said: “Honduras plays much faster, their blocking is very good as well as their defense”.

Coach Victor Rodas of Honduras said: “We performed well; Belize has many skills and great height. In the last set, we lost concentration and lost an eight-point advantage. Due to Membreño’s injury, we’re using our second setter, Cristobal (Beto) who has done well, proving our team’s collective efforts; each one is capable of performing well”.

“We started off very slowly, allowing Honduras to take a bigger lead and they capitalized on it, while we were unable to overcome the deficit we put ourselves in. I think Honduras studied us very well and they got prepared by watching us yesterday.” expressed Coach Albert Humes.
