MANAGUA, Nicaragua, December 8, 2015 – Honduras overcame
Nicaragua 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-22) to cap the second day
at the XVI U20 Women’s Central American Championship.
Cecile Johnson led the Honduran team with 18 points while Nataly
Perez contributed 10 in the victory. Ditzy Ortiz topped the home
side with 17 points, followed by Maria Belen Arcia and Dalia
Conto with 12 and 10, respectively.
Honduras recovered taking advantage of the errors by Nicaragua
team that gave away 52 points via errors to 24 by the winners,
making the difference in the outcome. The hosts were better in
attacks 37-33 and in serves 16-8 while Honduras held the margin
in blocking 5-3.
Ruth Aguilar, captain of Honduras: “It was a good game. We had
ups and downs but at the end got the win. After losing the first
set we left that in the past and focused in what was coming next
trying to close the game.”
Andrea Peralta, captain of Nicaragua: “We played well despite
the loss. We lost the focus after the injury of our player
(Maria Cristina Cruz injured in the second set). I think we
battled but the nerves affected us in our first match, but this
is just beginning.” |
