Honduras reaped its first triumph
LIMA, Peru, May 15, 2019 - The taste of triumph arrived on
Wednesday for the Honduran national team, which beat Guatemala
3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-13) in its last game for the Serie B of
the U20 Pan American Cup- Herbalife Cup.
Honduras took advantage of the errors in the reception of
Guatemala, and although in the second set the match was tighter,
the Hondurans won with the impetuous attack by the center of
their captain Nathaly Perez, who was the only one to reach the
double digits with a total of 18 points.
The winners doubled their rival in aces (12-6), got 2 direct
points in blocking to none by Guatemala. The attack was in favor
of Honduras 28-21, who registered 24 unforced errors, while
their opponents had 33.
Nathaly Pérez, captain of Honduras: The first two games we lost
against Cuba and Peru gave us an important lesson, today we
tried to avoid the mistakes we had made before and we are very
happy to win and move on to the next round.
Jimena Castellanos, captain of Guatemala: Anxiety played against
us, is a rival we know and we know we could give more fight as
we did in the second set; It was not possible but we are sure
that we will meet again and we will have the revenge.
Catarine Leiva's team secured their place in the quarterfinal
stage as third in Group B with 5 points for today's victory. On
the other hand, those directed by William Fernández finished in
the fourth square and will play on Saturday 18 for the sixth
place of the U20 Pan American Cup. |
