Honduras scores straight set win over Belize
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 18, 2017. - Honduras scored a
straight set win 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-18) over Belize in their
morning session at the XII AFECAVOL Girls’ U-18 Central American
Championship at Jorge A. Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa,
Honduras.
Honduras took charge over Belize especially in set two, but
their unforced errors kept set three very close. The home team
serves were unstoppable with 11-3 advantage; they also did
better in spikes (24-11) and in blocks (5-0). Honduras committed
23 errors and Belize finished with 35.
Honduras’ middle blockers Nathaly Jimenez and Reer James topped
the charts with 15 and 14 points respectively.
This was Honduras second win, they now have 2-0 record and 10
points; Belize has 0-2 record and 0 points.
Reer James, middle blocker of Honduras:
“I feel really great playing volleyball and I like the
responsibility of scoring for my team. My setter, Gabriela Gomez
does a great job setting me good balls. The third set was too
close but with team effort we won it”.
Catarine Leiva, coach of Honduras:
“I made a mistake in the line-up in set three and Belize took
advantage of the holes while my team adjusted. It was a good
exercise, as humans we all make mistakes and assume the
consequences; today my players helped me to straighten things
out”.
Jayda Smith, captain of Belize:
“Our passing and setting was off because our lack of mobility.
We need to move a lot more, improve our communication and have
more consistency in serving”.
Delio Arruebarrena, coach of Belize:
“My players are very young and inexperienced, they perform well
according to the time we have been training. Their game level
will improve with each match, in the third they knew how to
catch-up. The price of our consecutive unforced errors is high;
we need to concentrate more”.
