Honduras wins in straight sets against Nicaragua
BELIZE CITY, Belize, September 24, 2016. - Honduras grabbed a
straight set win 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-22) against Nicaragua on
opening day of the AFECAVOL Men’s FIVB 2018 World Championship
qualification tournament at St. Catherine Academy Center in
Belize City.
Nicaragua struggled to get into rhythm but as the match
developed they gave Honduras a rough time especially in sets one
and two, which closed with little margin. Honduras managed to
gain control scoring important aces to finish winning.
Honduras (1-0) will face Dominican Republic (1-0) on Sunday, and
Nicaragua (0-1) has the day off.
Marvin Ulloa, captain of Honduras:
“I think we need more concentration, we allowed Nicaragua to
catchup with us in the first two sets, getting into trouble. We
are glad to have started with the right foot”.
Jorge Toledo, captain of Nicaragua:
“We are disappointed, the great effort of coming from beginning
in the beginning didn’t pay off with the result we were looking
for y we all know we are capable of more. We need to be more
consistent in scoring more consecutive points”.
Marvin Ulloa, coach of Honduras:
“My team is young but experienced, today we failed many serves
and we committed unforced errors in blocking, we must work on
these two aspects of the game. I am confident in my team, even
if we’re missing older players, today they probed they can
perform well”.
Osman Hernández, coach of Nicaragua:
“We recovered well after settling on the court and I think that
bad passing decisions cost us the loss. The younger players in
the team responded very well”. |
