SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 16, 2015.-
Honduras took a solid win over Nicaragua 3-0 (25-8, 25-20,
25-17) in the second match of the Girls’ U-18 Central American
Championship.
Honduras showed superiority in the first set after the first
technical time-out with an 8-5 lead. With good defense and
strong spikes, Honduras got into better rhythm and a big lead.
As Nicaragua warmed up they were able to balance the next two
sets, while Honduras had more difficulties in scoring.
Leonela Carcache, Nicaragua’s captain said “despite the loss, I
believe we it was a good match, our receiving wasn’t so good”.
Honduras’ captain Rut Aguilar said “we played very well, we had
ups and downs where our best attribute was our offense, and we
got worried when Nicaragua balanced the actions but we were able
to defeat them”.
Claudia Noguera, Coach of Nicaragua said “our reception wasn’t
good, especially in the first set; we did better in the second
set, with the score tighter; the most important thing was that
my players decided to perform better”.
Marcos Tejeda, Coach of Honduras expressed “I thought Nicaragua
was going to put us in a more difficult situation, attacking in
the middle was key for the win, but our libero played insecure,
she is new in the team, as well as my left handed player”.
