Host Jamaica to get Ocho Rios Tournament off to start

 

OCHO RIOS, Montego Bay, Jamaica, November 15, 2019 - Host Jamaica women and men teams will be on action on all three courts when the final leg of the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament serves off on Friday, November 15 at the scenic Ocho Rios Bay, adjacent the Rooms Hotel Ocho Rios until Sunday, November 17 at Montego Bay with 14 teams in each gender.

 

On Court One, Jamaica-A women’s pairing of the experienced Kai Wright and Petal Smith will come up against Costa Ricans Angel Williams and Camila Villegas in their Pool D opener while Guatemalans Estafanie Bethancourt and Natalia Giron face Arubans, Jackie Toussaint Mali Rafini in the other pool match.

 

Court Two which will feature women’s matches only will see Jamaica-B duo, Selena Mitchell and Tavia Watson meeting Nicaraguans Lolette Rodriguez and Valeria Mendoza in Pool C while Curacao’s Angjeny Tolentino and Leandra battling United States Virgin Islands-B’s Jade Vitt and Lisa Dietrich.

 

 In the men’s competition, Jamaica-B ‘s Owayne Lawrence and Triston Hitchman tackle Canada-A’s Jake MacNeil and Liam Kopp to begin Pool C round-robin play while Trinidad and Tonago’s Daneil Williams and Joel Theodore plays Arubans Angela Fransua and Eddy Toro.

 

The Jamaica-A duo of Noley Ferguson and top indoor player, Ryck Webb head Pool B and face United States of America’s Lotman and Partian in Pool D which also includes Ruben Mora and Denis Jose Lopez of Nicaragua, and United States Virgin Islands’ Marc Lomeli and Anthony Pippen.

 

Due to the late arrival of members of the Control Committee and players, a decision was made by Daymian Stewart, the Competition Director to complete the pool draws on Thursday night, the eve of the start of the matches and from 6.30 am on Friday, the Preliminary Enquiry and Technical Meeting was held where all details were fully explained to all participants.

 

Miguel Ramirez, the Referee Delegate also brief players on any issues raised while neutral referee Julio Martinez of Dominican Republic, his countryman Raul Calvo (photographer) and neutral referee, Erick Martinez and Jackie Cowan, General Secretary of the Jamaica Volleyball Association (JAVA) and recently appointed Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) all comprised the Control Committee as well.

 

An important part of the morning’s briefing featured a presentation by C.E.O Everald Edwards of Fast Recovery Treatment Centre on treatment using the body’s natural energy to heal itself, which was well received by the athletes.
