Hosts Bahamas Men Create History
Nassau, The Bahamas, August 22 - Hosts, The Bahamas men won their
first match against Barbados to create history at the 19th CAZOVA
championships being played here in Nassau, The Bahamas.
After placing last in Group A the locals gave their fans lots to
cheer for in the Kendal GL Isaacs National Gymnasium with a stunning
win over former 10 times kings Barbados 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 18-25,
15-12. The Bahamas who lost the 1994 finals to Barbados in the same
venue had never beaten the Bajans in meetings since 1992.
The Bajans could not match the power of Bahamas’ attack or net and
ground defence. Barbados who have never ended out of the top four
at CAZOVA will battle their arch rivals Trinidad and Tobago for the
fifth spot.
Jamaica overcame a tough opening set to win their quarterfinal match
from T&T 30-32, 25-17, 26-24, 25-17. Jamaica qualified to meet the
Group B winners Curacao while the other semifinal match pits The
Bahamas against Suriname. |
