Hosts Dominicans start with the right foot

 

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic, May 15, 2014 – Hosts Dominican Republic began their quest for a spot at the FIVB Women’s World Championship Italy 2014 with a solid victory 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-16 over Guadeloupe in the second match of NORCECA Pool P at Eleoncio Mercedes Coliseum on Thursday.

 

Gina Mambru topped the winners with 14 points, including two aces, and Marianne Fersola and Brayelin Martínez each scored 6 points in the victory. Sandra Ramier had 6 points as the best for the defeated side.

 

The Dominicans outserved their opponents 7-0 but trailed 5-4 in the blocking category. The Guadeloupe team made 32 unforced errors to 19 by the winners.

 

Bethania De la Cruz, Captain of Dominican Republic: “We feel very glad with the victory, especially with the support from the fans. It was, relatively, an easy win.”

 

Marcos Kwiek, Coach of Dominican Republic: “It is difficult to maintain the top quality with two teams of such different level. But we respected the opponent and got what we wanted, a 3-0 victory.”

 

Isabelle Acina, Captain of Guadeloupe: “It is very difficult when you play a strong team at its home, but I feel proud of my players and we are motivated for the rest of the games.”

 

Pascal Douglas, Coach of Guadeloupe: “We played a good game, excepted for the second set. I am proud of my players and this is only the first match. It is not over yet.”
