Huge Mini-Volley Fest organized in Dominican Republic
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 15, 2014- The
NORCECA/FIVB Regional Development Center in the Dominican
Republic in collaboration with the Dominican Republic National
Federation organized a three-day Mini-Volley Festival with the
participation of more than 400 girls hailing from the 32
provinces of the country.
The event was dedicated to the honor of Cosiris Rodriguez, the
former captain of the Dominican Republic Women’s Team who is now
starting a career as a coach.
During the three-day event the girls took part in volleyball
matches as well as different cultural and recreational
activities.
The NORCECA Confederation, continuing with the implementation
and follow up of its development program, donated all the
necessary sport equipment for the success of this annual
activity held in Santo Domingo.
Luis Mejia Oviedo, president of the Dominican Republic Olympic
Committee, attended the ceremony and addressed encouraging words
to the hundred of girls during the opening ceremony of the
festival at the Volleyball Complex of Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic
Center in the Dominican capital.
Nelson Ramirez, director of the NORCECA/FIVB Regional
Development Center in the Dominican Republic, highlighted the
importance of this kind of grass root activities as a unique way
to attract young people to the practice of sports and contribute
to their health and education.
Rodriguez, who retired in 2010 after a long international
career, expressed her gratitude to the volleyball authorities in
the country for the dedicatory to her of such important
activity, and invited all the participating girls to enjoy and
have fun playing volleyball.
This year, the Development Center in Dominican Republic has
organized two Volleyball Festivals as well as a Beach Volleyball
Camp.
Ramirez announced that next week, the same institutions will
organize a Mini-Volley Festival for Boys with the same number of
participants from all provinces of the country. |
