LONDON, Ontario, March 27, 2015 - After a stellar year, which
included being named FIVB Rookie of the Year, beach volleyball
athlete Melissa Humana-Paredes is the latest recipient of the
Tom Ng Award.
"Tom Ng's generosity and continual support in the beach
community has ways been greatly appreciated," said Humana-Paredes,
who receives $1000 for her training expenses. "I want to thank
him again for creating this award to help fund beach athletes as
it helps us focus on competing and training."
Humana-Paredes, who is from Toronto, and her partner Taylor
Pischke of Winnipeg, had a break-out year, which included rising
in the FIVB world rankings, winning the NORCECA (The
North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball
Confederation) Championship and a World Under 23 medal.
The annual award was created by Tom Ng of London, Ontario, in
partnership with Volleyball Canada and the Canadian Olympic
Foundation.
"This is a great recognition for me and Taylor, and a reflection
of our awesome season last year. We are looking forward to more
successes this upcoming summer." |
