Inaugural CAZOVA tournament for Bonaire
BONAIRE, June 20, 2018 – The CAZOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball
Association) Under-23 Women’s Championships will be staged this
weekend at the Jorge Nicholas Sports Hall in Bonaire.
It will not only be the inaugural edition of the tournament, but
the first CAZOVA competition to ever take place in the one of
the smallest islands in the Caribbean.
Aruba, Curacao, Suriname, United States Virgin Islands (USVI)
and hosts Bonaire will do battle in straight round-robin action
from Friday until Sunday to determine the champions.
The tournament will serve off at 6 p.m. Friday with Curacao
facing Suriname and Bonaire and USVI will take the court in the
second match of the double header, following the opening
ceremony.
After resting on the opening night, Aruba will begin their
campaign at 11.30 a.m. the following day against Bonaire.
There will actually be four matches each on Saturday and Sunday
and the tournament will conclude with Suriname opposing Bonaire
at eight o’clock Sunday night.
CAZOVA president Mushtaque Mohammed was full of praise for the
“tremendous effort” made by Bonaire officials to stage a
tournament of this magnitude for the first time.
The venue was named in honour of former Bonaire president Jorge
Nicholas, who passed away after undergoing heart surgery in
2012.
