Italy beat Brazil in straight sets
Tijuana, Mexico, October 11, 2013.- Italy defeated Brazil in
three sets 25-13, 26-24, 25-22 and will play against Turkey on
Saturday for the fifth place.
Anna Nicoletti was the top scorer of the match with a total of
20 points, while Cristina Chirichella finished with 13. Laura
Partenio tallied 11 and captain Alessia Genari and Raphaela
Folie scored 8 apiece.
Brazil’s top scorer was Gabriella Souza while Mara Leao and
Francynne Jacintho finished with 8 apiece.
The Italian team coached by Luca Cristofani won also the block
and serve battle with a 15-11 ballance in their favor.
Chirchirella had 7 kills and Nicoletti 3. Brazil worked their
block with Mara Leao, with 4 kills.
Nicoletti aced 4 times. The Italians also had a good reception
with 24 excellents. The Brazilians will play against Germany on
Saturday for places 7 and 8.
“We feel a little bit sad. Psychologically, it is difficult for
us. We expected to compete for a medal at this tournament”, said
Italian coach Luca Cristofani. “But playing against Brazil is
always something great. I feel a great respect for them and feel
happy for this win in this match against Brazil”. |
