RIMINI, Italy, June 5, 2021 – Italy edged Canada
3-2 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 26-28, 15-11) in an
emotional battle that closed the second week of
the FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League on
Saturday.
The Italians took advantage of 39 unforced
errors by the Canadians and held a 18-8 wide
margin in the blocking category. The North
Americans led 8-5 in aces.
Gabriel Nelli and Francesco Recine each had 19
points to share the lead as the best Italian
scorers, while Mattia Bottolo chartered 14
points.
Nicholas Hoag topped Canada with 18 points, Eric
Loeppky had 15 and Sharone Vernon-Evans added 13
in the losing cause.
Both Italy and Canada show 2-4 win-loss records
after two weeks of play.
