Italy remains undefeated after victory over Dominican Republic
CONEGLIANO VENETO, Italy, May 28, 2019 – Italy remained as one
of the undefeated teams in the early going of the FIVB Women’s
Volleyball League of Nations after defeating a battling
Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-18, 27-25, 18-25, 25-20) on Tuesday.
The Italians ranked 8th in the world are now 4-0 while the 10th
ranked Dominicans dropped to a 2-2 mark.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for Italy over the
Dominican Republic at world level major tournaments since a 3-2
defeat at the 2014 World Championship. All four victories of
Dominican Republic against Italy have been in five sets. The two
teams have face each other in a total of 24 matches.
Indre Sorakairte topped Italy’s scoring with 17 points, followed
by Lucia Bosetti and Elena Pietrini with 16 and 15,
respectively.
Brayelin Martinez had 19 points for the Dominican Republic.
Bethania de la Cruz and Jineiry Martinez finished with 15 and 10
points.
On Wednesday, Italy meets United States in a battle between
undefeated sides while Dominican Republic faces Serbia the top
world ranked team. |
