Ivy May and Cuba set records for aces
LIMA, Peru, May 13, 2019 – Two Pan American records for aces by
an individual player and a a team were established by Cuba in
the opening match of the fifth edition of the U20 Women’s Pan
American Cup at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores.
Cuban Ivy May established a new mark for aces in a single game
with the 12 she landed against Guatemala.
May erased the old mark of 11 shared by Puerto Rican Daly
Santana and Dominican Natalia Martínez. Santana set the record
on March 22 of 2013 against Costa Rica in Havana, Cuba, while
Martinez tied it on April 19 of 2015 against Nicaragua in Santo
Domingo.
As a team, Cuba totaled 29 surpassing the record of 22 by Mexico
against Costa Rica on April 22, 2015.
Cuba defeated Guatemala 3-0 (25-4, 25-10, 25-11). The score of
the first set was short by one point of the most lopsided set in
the history of the event when Dominican Republic overwhelmed
Nicaragua 25-3 in the first set of their match in 2015 in the
Dominican capital. |
