Jamaica U19 Boys lose to Suriname in CAZOVA champs
SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, July 22, 2019 - Jamaica's Under-19 boys
went down 3-0 Monday evening to Suriname in their opening match
of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association's championships
being played at GC Foster College of Physical Education and
Sport.
The hosts committed numerous unforced errors throughout the
three sets, gifting Suriname easy points, to eventually lose
25-16, 25-20, 25-20 and will have to bounce back against the
United States Virgin Islands on Tuesday, to place themselves in
a position to advance to the final.
The first round of the tournament is being played on a
round-robin basis, with all the teams playing each other, before
the top two advance to the final on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Barbados defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0
with set scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-21. The other team in the
competition is the United States Virgin Islands.
In Jamaica vs Suriname match, the first set had Jamaica
committing numerous unforced errors to allow their opponents to
take a comfortable lead. The Jamaicans served many times into
the net while hitting many of their shots long or wide.
They also spiked from midcourt, which made it easy for Suriname
to block or read their play.
The situation remained the same in the second set although
Jamaica started hitting closer to the net, which they also did
in the third set. They actually had the lead for most of the
third set but faltered after leading 17-12 to hand Suriname the
victory. |
