KINGSTON, Jamaica, May 27, 2022 - After being
dormant for over 2 years the Jamaica volleyball
scene has erupted with activities. Since the
beginning of the year the Jamaica Volleyball
Association (JaVA) started things off with a
series or practice matches, in March, to test
club engagement and its capacity to stage
volleyball events.
Jamaica participated in a Beach Volleyball World
Championship qualification tournament in the
women’s category. The JaVA then staged a One Day
Club Rally in April and has been consistently
sending teams, both men and women, to
participate in the current 2022 NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Tour (Cuba and Mexico so far) .
While activities have restarted on the beach as
well as on the court, the National Indoor
programs were hit a significant blow as
tournaments and teams have been out of
commission for over 2 years. Based on the
current international schedule for Jamaica,
Senior Team tournaments are scheduled for 2023.
To stay active and ahead of the curve, the
coaching and management staff of the Jamaica’s
Senior Women Volleyball Team saw it prudent to
stage a weekend of volleyball and volleyball
related activities to get a sense of where the
squad is at to help chart the way forward for
the players, coaches and managers.
The weekend of activities will be from June
16-21, 2022 and is to help develop and deliver
an experience that is rewarding and beneficial
to the long-term growth and objectives of the
Senior Women Volleyball Program.
The weekend will be used to assess the level of
‘player readiness’ by determining general
fitness, strength and individual skill levels
before return to a high level of play. The
weekend’s events will promote and showcase the
sport of volleyball to our various stakeholders.
The JaVA hopes to attract other entities to
partner with to assist with goals of the Senior
Women’s Volleyball Team as well as other teams
and volleyball related activities in Jamaica.
Plans are underway for a similar event with the
Senior Men’s Volleyball Team. Further
announcements will be made leading up to the
event. |
