Jamaica hosts U18 and U19 CAZOVA Championships
SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, July 21, 2019 - Eleven teams from six
National Federations participating in the Caribbean Zonal
Volleyball Association's (CAZOVA) Boys Under-19 and Girls
Under-18 Championships arrived in Jamaica on Sunday and the only
thing competing with the sweltering heat is their own eagerness
to get the event on the way.
Five boys’ teams, from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname,
US Virgin Islands, and the host country Jamaica, will do battle
in a round robin competition format. The top two teams will then
square off in the Gold Medal match, while the next two teams
play to decide the third place finisher.
On the girls’ side, six teams will be divided into two groups of
three with the top two teams from each group advancing to the
semi-finals, followed by the final and third place deciders. The
participating teams on the girls’ side are Barbados, Guadalupe,
Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, US Virgin Islands, and the host,
Jamaica.
The teams went seamlessly through the routines of the
Preliminary Inquiry and improvised Technical Meeting and all is
now set for a riveting Championship in both the boys and girls
categories.
The teams are being accommodated at GC Foster College of
Physical Education and Sports, where the tournament will be
played between Monday and Saturday, 22-27 July 2019.
Jamaica are the defending Under-19 champions. |
