Jamaica stop USVI 3-1 in CAZOVA Under-19
SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica; July 23, 2019 - Host Jamaica defeated the
United States Virgin Island (USVI) 3-1 to record their first
victory in the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association boys'
Under-19 tournament at GC Foster College of Physical Education
and Sport.
Jamaica were rebounding from their opening 3-0 (25-16, 25-20,
25-20) loss against Suriname on Monday and had set scores of
25-13, 25-11, 23-25, 25-13.
The Jamaicans had a much improved all-round game on Tuesday as
they blocked and spiked with purpose.
Jamaica's head coach Steve Davis said, "we still have things to
work on, we still have things to do and the players will get
better as the tournament progresses. We didn't have many service
errors and we scored better. We scored our points when we got
the chance."
USVI's coach Isaac Raphael said, "this morning we had our first
practice ever, together as a team so I am actually pretty
excited about the performance. We are very inexperienced, we are
a young team, so they will get better and I am looking to see
great things in the future." |
