SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica, August 29, 2015 - Hosts Jamaica will play
defending champions Barbados on Sunday following a straight-set
win (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) over Trinidad and Tobago in the second
semi-final match of the CAZOVA under 19 Championships being held
at the auditorium of the GC Foster College in Spanish Town
Jamaica.
Jovan Thomas had 10 spikes and contributed defensively with two
blocks as Jamaica dominated their Trinidadian rivals who had
come into the tournament with expectations of going all the way.
Javarie James also had five spikes and kill blocks to help
Jamaica hasten their run to the finals.
Tyrique Nicolas and Rashaun Whyte had 13 and 10 spikes
respectively were standouts for the Trinidadians, who began with
a win over Haiti last Thursday but lost their next three games.
“This has been out best game so far. The boys are getting better
with each game, they are learning about their opponents,
learning about their strengths and learning how to capitalize on
their weaknesses,” said an elated coach Steve Davis.
He praised Middle Blocker Clifton Clarke, Setter Oneil Daley as
well as Thomas but emphasized that the win was the result of
‘real team effort’. “
James has also been serving a lot better,” said Davis, who added
that he hopes the performance means the team will peak for their
match against Barbados on Sunday. |
