Puerto Rican Cruz sets club record in Italy

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, January 9, 2012 – Puerto Rican Aury Cruz became the all-time leading scorer of Club Villa Cortese of the Italian League by reaching the 1,300-point plateau surpassing the previous mark set by Cuban Taimaris Aguero.

 

Cruz is playing in her third consecutive season for Villa Cortese of the A-11 Italian Volleyball League. With two victories in the week her team returned to the second place in the standings with 29 points and a 10-2 win-loss record.

 

On Friday, Villa Cortese defeated Riso Scotti Pavia 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-16) with Cruz contributing 9 points and a .760 average of reception.

 

Cruz returned to action on Sunday with 19 points to lead the 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 28-26) triumph over PalaBorsani. The Puerto Rican was selected the Most Valuable Player of the match while finishing with a .840 percentage of reception.
