Jet lagged Honduras starves off Dominica
POINTE-A - PITRE, Guadeloupe, June 15, 2013 - Honduras took
match two of the World Championship Qualifier - Group N when
they overcame a determined Dominica team in straight sets
(25-17, 25-21, 25-22).
Arriving just moments before the delayed start of the game the
Hondurans were made to work as Dominica exhibited a strong
fight.
Rony Martinez, coach of the Honduran team pointed to good
pre-tournament preparation and strong will that accounted for
the victory. "Today, no one player stood out, it was an overall
team effort and the confidence we had coming here as central
American champions, yes it was the teamwork that committed very
little errors that help us", he recounted.
Coach of the Dominica team Robert Guiste admitted that they were
a bit nervous at the start of the match. His captain, Ray
Robinson agreed with him and said that he was looking forward to
a rematch.
"Honduras played a great game today but I am certain that we did
not play to the best of our abilities. Now that we have seen
them we will be very cautious against the others with the aim
that we will get the chance to play them in the 1st place
match," Robinson said.
The score sheet confirmed Martinez assessment, the Honduran
spike points were shared evenly between Carlos Osario and Evans
Torres at 10. The blocks were led by Luis Membreno with three
(3) and the service points (3) were led by Luis Membrano.
The Dominican charge was led by Lincoln Riviere who was the
highest individual scorer in the game with 13 points.
Honduras were expected to have a short break before meeting
Grenada in match #3 with the highly anticipated clash between
Dominica and Guadeloupe closing the night's matches. |
