Joyner and Boag missed the world record by two points
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 19, 2019 – The
USA duo of Brandon Joyner and Michael Boag came up short by
two points of the FIVB World Tour record for the highest
score in game 3 of an official match.
Playing at the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the
sixth stop of the 2019 NORCECA Circuit Joyner and Boag
scored 32 points to edge Daneil Willaims and Joell Theodore
of Trinidad & Tobago in a tiebreaker of their pool play
contest.
The match played on September 14, finished 2-1 (20-22,
21-19, 32-30) and lasted one hour and 21 minutes.
The FIVB World Tour record for the highest score in a third
set was established by Brazilians Marcio Araujo and Benjamin
Insfran in Mallorca, Spain on September 7, 2003 – 16 years
ago.
The Brazilians Araujo/Insfran defeated Germany’s Markus
Dieckmann and Jonas Reckermann 14-21, 21-19, 34-32. The
match lasted one hour and 36 minutes.
