Brazil defeat Argentina, improve to 4-0

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 15, 2012 – Brazil prevailed against a relentless Argentina 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 27-25) to remain undefeated in four outings in Pool B of the XI Women’s Pan American Cup on Sunday. Argentina evened their record at 2-2.

Natasha Farinea and Gabriela Braga each recorded 12 points to share the lead of the balanced Brazilian offense. Priscila Daroit added 10 while Andressa Picussa and Joyce Silva charted 9 apiece. Argentina’s Lucia Fresco and Emilce Sosa finished with 13 and 10 points respectively and Mariangeles Cossar tallied nine.

“It was a match between two strong teams and it was important for us because for the first time we had to play behind in the score,” Brazil’s Farinea commented. “The Argentineans have a fast attack.”

“It was a good match against a strong opponent and we are getting into a good rhythm,” Argentina’s Sosa said.

“Our team is playing better with good coordination,” Brazil’s coach Claudio Pinheiro said. “The only way to show our respect to Argentina is playing hard. This match was a new experience for my young group of players.”

“It was important to play well against a rival with such high level,” Argentina’s coach Horacio Bastit said. “The match was pretty even and I am satisfied because we elevated our game in relation to the previous ones.”
