Peru outclass Trinidad & Tobago
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 16 2012 - Carla Rueda scored 13
points and Clarivett Yllescas registered 10 in the 3-0 (25-15,
25-20, 25-12) victory over Trinidad & Tobago at the XI Women’s
Pan Am Cup.
After a five sets match against Costa Rica the night before, the
Trinidadians Kelly- Anne Billingy and Rheeza Grant finished with
eight points each only.
“We played against a very tall and strong team with a good
physical talent. We had to adjust and work with our block and
serve,” said Peru’s captain Elena Keldibekova.
“We had just very few chances to recover, but now we will just
take one match at a time to see who will face on the next
round,” commented Krystle Esdelle.
Trinidad & Tobago (1-4) will play at the classification round,
while Peru (4-1) are in the mix for a World Grand Prix berth.
“We have a few experimented players and after Karla Ortiz is
out, we have given more opportunity to Angela who is one of the
youngest players in this roster,” Peruvian coach Edwin Jimenez
stated.
Francisco Cruz remarked that the Peruvian serve deserved the
credit. “I cannot say that the players were tired (after the
match against Costa Rica). The credit is for the serve strategy
by Peru. They also controlled the pass and that really affected
our attack,” he concluded. |
