Mexico beats Chile in three sets
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 1, 2011 – Mexico saw off Chile in
straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) in front of around 5,000
spectators in the last match of Pool A during opening day of the
10th Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup on Friday.
Both teams finished tied in the blocking category (9-9) and in
serving aces (6-6).
Mexicans Xitlali Herrera and Claudia Rios each registered 10
points while Chile’s Catalina Melo had a match-high 15 points.
“We had some problems of concentration after leading the first
two sets by wide margin”, Mexicans Martha Revuelta said. “We
learned from that and were able to keep the distance in the
third set.”
“We complied with the expectations since Chile was the weaker of
the two teams,” Mexican coach Mario Herrera said. “Tomorrow we
play against Cuba, a respectable team with players and
physically sound added to their experience.” |
