Puerto Rico defeats Costa Rica In straight sets
MEXICALI, Mexico, July 12 2011. — Puerto Rico defeated Costa
Rica in straight sets (25-9, 25-10, 25-15) in its first match at
the Boys’ U19 Pan American Cup.
Carlos Acosta and Giovanni Llinas scored 10 points apiece for
Puerto Rico, while Jorge Murillo and Cesar Gomez, concluded with
three points each.
“It was a match in which we could played better a little bit
more, but missed our concentration”, stated Andres Araya,
captain of Costa Rica.
“We feel a little bit better, the team looks also little more
released, but we have to work in some fundamental things to
improve”, said Costa Rican coach Henry Rodriguez.
“This first match was an opportunity for many of our players to
see how this discipline is in the international stage”, said
Puerto Rican captain Ramon Burgos, while his coach, Ramon
Lawrence remarked that starting with a better service and
avoiding mistakes helped them to win.“We corrected some errors
and must be ready for tomorrow’s match against Brazil”, finished
