United States defeated Trinidad & Tobago
MEXICALI, Mexico, July 12, 2011.— The United States National
team was the last one to play its first match at the Boys’ U19
Pan American Cup. USA defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-12,
25-10, 25-13) as Benjamin Patch scored 11 and Aaron Russell 9
for the Americans. Brandon Legall tallied 7 for Trinidad and
Tobago.
“This was a more difficult match than the first one and
struggled with our blocking game, we faced a very experienced
team”, said Trinidadian captain Ryan Thomas. “We played a very
good match and had good chemistry and hope to go further in this
tournament and prepare for the World Championship in Argentina”,
said American captain Matthew West.
USA faces Mexico, while Trinidad and Tobago has a bye date this
Wednesday.
“We are very excited about that match, Mexico has good athletic
and strong players like the team captain (Jonathan Ponce) who is
a good ball hitter on outside. It will be very exciting”, stated
team USA coach Ken Shibuya. |
