Argentina wins duel with Canada
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 2, 2011 – Argentina recovered from
the loss to Cuba one day earlier and defeated Canada 3-1 (25-15,
25-23, 21-25, 26-24) in Pool A of the Women’s Pan American
Volleyball Cup on Saturday.
Lucia Fresco scored 15 points, including the one to seal the
victory, for Argentina. Emilce Sosa and Georgina Pinedo added 12
apiece. Canadian Sarah Pavan finished with 16 points and Kyla
Richey added 12.
“It was a great match, very close and we had a great desire of
winning,” Argentina’s Georgina Pinedo said. “We could keep the
level for longer time than yesterday.”
“We had up and downs but played well in the second and third
sets when our blocking was good,” Canada’s Tammy Mahon said. “I
hope we can bounce back tomorrow.”
“All the matches between Argentina and Canada are a battle,”
Argentinean Horacio Bastit said. “We played well and were able
to close the sets. I am really happy.”
“They played better than us at the end of the sets,” Canada’s
coach Arnd Ludwig said. “I have a couple of inexperienced
players who are taking the tournament as a learning lesson.” |
