Peru digs deep for first victory
CIUDAD JUAREZ, México, July 2, 2011. – Peruvians had to dig deep
to earn their first victory 3-0 over Trinidad & Tobago (25-14,
25-17, 29-27), on the second day of the qualifying round in Pool
B of the 10th Women´s Pan American Cup in Universidad
Autonoma Ciudad Juarez venue.
Even though Trinidad & Tobago had an effective block during the
match and was on top on most of the third set, it wasn’t enough
to overcome a fast and well organized Peruvian team.
The best scorer for Peru was Mirtha Uribe with 11 points and for
Trinidad & Tobago, Kriystle Esdelle and Channon Thompson had 15
and 13 points respectively.
Diana Soto captain team of Peru expressed: “We’re improving with
each match, things got complicated in the third set but the
important thing is the result”.
For Trinidad & Tobago, Krystle Esdelle said: “We started a bit
nervous, but we adjusted well and got better with each point, we
will continue on pushing because we have much more to give”.
Peru’s coach Luca Cristofani was pleased with their victory.
“Trinidad took advantage of our mistakes and began to rise, my
team needs more experience so things will improve,” he said.
“I am completely satisfied with the result, this is a young team
that still make many mistakes, as they begin to reduce them,
we’ll see better results,” declared Francisco Cruz, coach for
Trinidad & Tobago. |
