defeats Costa Rica
CIUDAD JUAREZ, México, July 3, 2011 – Peru recorded its second
win in Pool B with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 26-24) victory over
Costa Rica at the 10th Women´s Pan American Cup in
Universidad Autonoma Ciudad Juarez.
It was a neck to neck match between both teams, but at the end
Peru took the victory despite losing their outside hitter, Carla
Rueda, who was taken to a medical center after suffering a knee
injury early in the match. Peru has a 2-1 win-loss record.
Angelica Aquino registered 15 points for Peru, including 5 aces,
and Karla Ortiz added 13 points. For Costa Rica, Mariela Quesada
charted 9 points.
Diana Soto talked about how her team is improving with each
match. “We are pleased with another victory but we are aware
that we must improve to reach an international level”.
“Our reception was very poor and we made too many mistakes”
indicated Karen Cope of Costa Rica.
Peru’s coach, Luca Cristofani wasn’t 100% pleased. “Sure I’m
glad for the win, but Carla Rueda was having a spectacular
tournament and it’s a terrible loss for the team”.
While Costa Rican Braulio Godinez said “we didn´t fight enough
even if in the third set things got better”. |
