Cuba still perfect in Pool A
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 4, 2011 – Cuba maintained its
perfect record in Pool A with a 4-0 record after a 3-0 (25-13,
25-18, 25-22) over Canada in the fourth day of action at the
Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup.
Cuban Kenia Carcaces finished with 17 points including three
aces while Wilma Salas hammered 11 tallies all via attacks.
Canadian Sarah Pavan totaled 13 points.
“Our team started well focused and kept the composure during the
whole match,” Cuban Yusidey Silié said. “The team is now better
coordinated and with confidence and stability.”
“We always learn playing against a team like Cuba so we were
glad to have them in our pool,” Canadian Tammy Mahon stated. “We
go tomorrow against Chile and I hope we can find our rhythm
because today we had many ups and downs.”
“Our athletes followed our tactical plan and it is always to win
against Canada, a strong team and a NORCECA rival,” Cuban coach
Juan Gala said.
“Our serves were too easy for a powerful hitter like Cuba,
otherwise I think we played a good game,” Canada’s coach Arnd
Ludwig said. |
