Canada defeats Trinidad & Tobago
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, July 7, 2011 - Canada stayed in
contention for a fifth place after defeating Trinidad & Tobago
3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) at the 10th Pan American Women’s Cup
held in Universidad Ciudad Juarez.
Canada took control of the match and Trinidad & Tobago had to
deal with the loss of Krystle Esdelle that wasn’t in conditions
to play because of stomach pains.
The best players for Canada were Sarah Pavan with 14 points, 9
of them blocks, and Kyla Richey with 11. Canada outscored
Trinidad & Tobago in blocks 12-7. Trinidadian, Kelly-Anne
Billingy, topped her side with 13 points.
“We were expecting a different lineup, we wish Krystle the best;
we focused on our own side, in getting our rhythm and flow,”
Canadian Tammy Mahon said.
For Trinidad & Tobago, Kelly-Anne Billingy said: “We had to
switch our lineup, we did well and we still are seeking for
better results.”
Arnd Ludwig was happy for the team and believes their service
made the difference. “It was a surprise not to see number 16,
our blocks also harmed Trinidad & Tobago and we concentrated in
not making easy errors.”
“The team responded well with the new lineup, the scores weren’t
that bad, and we continue working as our players are young and
four girls are in development,” Trinidad’s coach Francisco Cruz
said. |
