Pan Am Cup Men’s Cup starts in six days in Gatineau

 

GATINEAU, Quebec, June 8, 2011 – Ten countries are confirmed for the sixth edition of the Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup which gets under next Monday with the opening match between Canada and Puerto Rico at the Centre Robert-Guertin in Gatineau, Quebec.

 

Along with Canada and Puerto Rico, the other teams are defending champions USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Panama, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

 

Pool A is composed by Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela, Pool B consists of Canada, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic and Pool C is formed by USA, Panama, Bahamas and Argentina.

 

The USA team have won fourth of the first five editions with Mexico claiming the other crown at the intercontinental event.

 

It is the first major event for the national team in the all important 2011 season which will include an opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.  There are also big prizes at the Pan Am Cup with two berths in the prestigious 2012 World League on the line at the tournament.

 

For Monday’s Canada- Puerto Rico match, area schools are invited to attend this match. The opening ceremony will take place around fifteen minutes before the match.

 

The quarterfinals are scheduled on Thursday, the semis on Friday and the medal’s matches on Saturday.
