Peru cruises against El Salvador
LIMA, Peru, June 16, 2011 – Peru outclassed El Salvador in
straight sets (25-8, 25-7, 25-12) in the second match of Pool B
of the First U-20 Women’s Pan American Cup at Miguel Grau
Coliseum, following a colorful opening ceremony.
Raffaela Camet was the match highest scorer with 14 points while
Vivian Baella added 10 in two sets she played. For the defeated
side, María José Galeano charted 7, while her teammates had very
little to contribute due to their inexperience.
Natalia Malaga, the legendat former Peruvian player who coaches
the juniors stated that despite their dominance during the match
she kept pointing out her players about the mistakes “trying
they do things correctly and because to me all the opponents are
difficult, and I like everyone of my players to take part in the
matches and can have the opportunity of competing
internationally.”
On the other side, Cuban Juan Andres Leon, coach of El Salvador,
remarked on the “respectable improvement of the Peruvian team
and the depth of its tactical fundaments since the last time I
faced them in 2009 while coaching a team of my country. I think
they can battle for the gold medal in this Cup.”
Clarivett Yliescas, captain of the home side, said it was good
to be able of practicing some plays for the World Championship
next July, while her Central American colleague Adriana Flores
recognized that the level is very demanding but it is an honor
to be able to compete and use that to develop.” |
