Peru overcomes Venezuela to remain unbeaten
LIMA, Peru, June 17, 2011 – Peru gave their home fans a pretty
victory defeating Venezuela 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-18) to tie
with Mexico in top place of Pool at the 1st U-20 Women’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup.
Middle blocker Clarivett Yliescas was the top scorer of the
match with 17 points for Peru followed by Grecia Herrera with 10
tallies. For Venezuela, Elianni Gómez (12), Rosmerli Carrillo
(11) and Roslandy Acosta (10) finished with double digits.
“Due to the low height of our team if we don’t defend well we
are dead”, Peruvian coach Natalia Malaga said.
Captain Yliescas said “we have to continue training and
improving technical aspects like the supporting work” and her
teammate the setter Alexandra Muñoz added that “Venezuela was a
pretty good rival but we could dominate them and I think our
tour around Europe helped in our preparation.”
Yonathan Rojas, coach of Venezuela, said that “between the two
countries always have existed a volleyball rivalry and “we came
to give our best, but in reality they had a better overall game
and we had fails in our serves.” |
