Rico dominates Costa Rica
ROSARITO, Mexico, June 18, 2010 - Puerto Rico started its
participation in the Pan Am Cup with a 3-0 victory over Costa
Rica (25-13, 25-15, 25-19).
Tatiana Encarnacion and Stephanie Enright were the top scorers
of the Puerto Rican team, both registering 10 points, while
Costa Rican Verania Willis finished with 8 points in a match
that lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes.
Vilmarie Mojica, the Puerto Rican captain stated: “We used all
our personnel and they did it right, but we still have to
improve some aspects to find our rhythm by one step at a time”.
“We have done some changes in our team, and this first match
helped us to have a first diagnostic about the things we have to
improve for the rest of the Cup,” Argentinean coach of Puerto
Rico Carlos Cardona said.
Willis, the Captain of Costa Rica said: “Our team has changed a
lot. We have a lot of young players but with the addition of
Lorne Sawula (as assistant coach from Canada) we have been
trying to change our style of play.”
