Cuba beat Costa Rica to finish second in Pool B
LIMA, Peru, June 18, 2011 –Cuba secured second place of Pool B
dominating Costa Rica in straight sets by identical scores of
25-17, 25-17, 25-17 and will play Venezuela on Sunday in the
quarterfinals of the 1st U-20 Women’s Volleyball Pan American
Cup.
Yunieska Robles was the top scorer of Cuba with 19 points.
Others in double figures were: Sulia Matienzo (13), Heidy
Rodríguez (12) y Regla Gracia (11). For the defeated side, the
captain Marcela Araya finished with 11 tallies.
“There are no small enemies and even though we won I feel
disappointed with the excess of confidence of my players, and
also the girls of Costa Rica battled hard”, Cuba’s Coach
Wilfredo Robinson said.
Braulio Godinez, coach of Costa Rica pointed out the amount of
points made by his team “even more important against a team from
a consolidated country with a tradition, while we are just
beginning.” |
