Cuba improves to 2-0 with victory over Canada
ROSARITO, Mexico, June 19, 2010 - Cuba showed why
is still one of the top countries in volleyball, and with no
hesitation came from behind to defeat a strong and well prepared
team of Canada by score of 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19).

Yilian Cieger concluded with 16 tallies apiece. Canada’s Tonya
Mokelki recorded 16 points, Sarah Pavan registered 15 and Tammy
Mahon and Jennifer Hinze chipped in 11 and 10 points
respectively.
After losing the first set, the Cubans coached by
Juan Carlos Gala made some adjustments with much better
reception and blocking game, finished with their second victory
of the tournament.
“We were very surprised by the tactical plan,
Canada played well prepared with good service and attack on the
first set, but we found the way to solve it and finally finished
with the victory and that was very important for us”, said coach
Gala.
“We played very focused on the first set, but on
the second one we had some mistakes and that was when we
struggled, but anyway I feel so proud of the way my team has
been playing”, Canada’s coach Arnd Ludwig stated.
