Peru
scores victory against Mexico
TIJUANA, Mexico, June 19, 2010 – Peru evened up its record at
1-1 following its straight-set (25-17, 7-25, 25-21) victory over
hosts Mexico who dropped to 0-2 in Pool B of the Women’s Pan
American Volleyball Cup.
Karla Ortiz led a balanced offense of the winners with 11
tallies while Jessenia Uceda charted 9 points and Patricia Soto
and Yulissa Zamudio contributed 8 apiece. Mexicans Samantha
Bricio and Andrea Rangel compiled 9 and 8 respectively in the
loss.
“I am very happy with our first victory but we still need to
have more control in the defense, Peru’s coach Choel Yong Kim
said. “We have more complicated matches to play and need to
fine-tune our defense.”
“We are still a very good offensive team and never lost that
weapon,” Leyla Chihuan said. “But we have to improve our serve
reception and the field defense.”
