Trinidad
& Tobago claims second victory
ROSARITO, Mexico, June 19, 2010 - Trinidad and Tobago defeated
Costa Rica 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-21) to claim its second victory
in the preliminary round of the Pan American Volleyball Cup.
The Trinidadians benefited from the explosive offense by Captain
Krystle Esdelle and Kelly-Anne Billingy, who both finished with
21 points. Costa Rican Verania Willis had a match-high 23
points.
“We had a goal and that goal was to come here and play united as
a team, and after four years coming to this tournament we feel
stronger”, said Esdelle.
Coach Francisco Cruz said the victory was as special as the one
they got one day earlier against Mexico.
“After many difficulties to train regularly in Trinidad I have
found these players with natural biotype,” Cruz said. “They just
need to improve the technical stuff, but I am proud of the way
we have grown up together”
Costa Rica suffered the loss of middle blocker Paola Ramirez
with an ankle injury in the first set.
“This was very serious because we lost our most experienced
center and had to work with two young players to solve that
situation”, said Costa Rica’s Braulio Godínez.
