USA
wins over Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets
ROSARITO, Mexico, June 20, 2010 – USA crushed
Trinidad & Tobago 25-17, 25-9, 25-11 in a Pool B match between
unbeaten teams in the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup. The
Americans stand at 3-0 while the Trinidadians are now at 2-1.
Trinidad & Tobago had been the dark horse of the
first round after claiming victories against the sides of Mexico
and Costa Rica but this time they stumbled against a very
powerful USA team.
Jordan Larson paced USA with 10 points while
Cynthia Barboza, Heather Bown and Christa Harmotto chipped in 9,
8 and 7 points respectively. Trinidadian Kelly-Anne Billingy
scored a match-high 12 points and Krystle Esdelle added 8.
“We are happy for winning this match in three
sets,” USA’s Nancy Metcalf said after the match. “Trinidad is a
very good team with good athletes and in the first set it was
very hard for us to stop them, but fortunately we kept the match
on our side of the net.”
“We fought on the beginning with no fear,” said
Esdelle the captain of Trinidad and Tobago. “We were fighting on
the first set, but after that I don’t know what really happened
to us”.
