Peru
secures place in quarterfinals
TIJUANA, Mexico, June 21, 2010 – Peru secured a place in the
quarterfinals of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by
claiming its third victory in Pool B, a straight-sets job
(25-18, 25-23, 25-15) over Trinidad & Tobago on Monday. The
losers dropped to 2-2 record.
Karla Ortiz and Jessenia Uceda charted 12 points apiece for the
winners while Yulissa Zamudio and Patricia Soto added 9 and 8
points respectively. Trinidadian Kelly-Anne Billingy topped all
the scorers with a match-high 18 poiints and Krystle Esdelle
added 14.
“I am very happy for the victory but it’s always good to
remember that teams are in constant evolution,” Peruvian Leyla
Chihuan said. “It was a tough match against a team with an
outstanding physical presence that has been improving year by
year.”
“We could have played better, but nevertheless it was a good
game for us,” Esdelle said. “We made many errors and need to
work harder in order to be stronger in our upcoming matches.”
