Peru finishes with 4-1 mark in Pool B

TIJUANA, Mexico, June 22, 2010 – Peru defeated winless Costa Rica in a lopsided match (25-7, 25-7, 25-9) to finish with a 4-1 record in Pool B of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup. The Peruvians had 9-0 advantage in both serve and blocking categories.

Karla Ortiz topped the winners with 12 points while Patricia Soto added 8. Mirtha Soriano, Jessenia Uceda and Elena Keldibekova each contributed 7 points.

“It would be of satisfaction for many of us to end our careers playing in the Grand Prix,” veteran Leyla Chihuan said. “That’s the only major competition I have missed after competing in two Olympics and two World Championships.”

“But for the time being our only goal is to continue playing day y day and to improve from the fifth place of last year in Miami,” added Chihuan.
