ROSARITO, Mexico, June 22, 2010 – Puerto Rico beat Trinidad &
Tobago 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) and finished in third place of
Pool B in the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.
Shanon Torregrosa notched 10 points to
lead the winners who benefited from 34 errors by their opponent
while committing only 15. Puerto Rican Sarai Alvarez added nine.
Trinidadians Kelly-Anne Billingy and Krystle Esdelle charted 11
and 10 points for the defeated side.
The “boricuas” missed their libero, Deborah Seilhamer who could
not play due to illness, but made some adjustements to clinch a
victory in just 61 minutes.
“We had to make some changes in our service, and had to solve
the situation of missing our libero, but I’ve seen a great
development on the side of Trinidad and Tobago by improving its
level”, said Puerto Rico´s coach Carlos Cardona.
“We went out on that match to keep on the line of playing hard
and strong, but we found a very strong and fast team like Puerto
Rico”, said Esdelle.
