Karina Ocasio elected MVP in Puerto Rican League
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 8, 2017 – Karina Ocasio, the
outstanding wing spiker of Criollas de Caguas, has been named as
most valuable player of the 2017 Puerto Rican Women’s Superior
League.
Ocasio, the first wing spiker to lead the blocking category in
the history of the league, received 9 first-place votes and
totaled 60 points. She led Criollas to win the regular series.
The final series starts on Tuesday with Caguas playing Juncos in
a best-of-seven clash.
The longtime star player of Puerto Rican national team is the
third player of Caguas to win the award following Mexican Laura
Salinas in 1997 and Dominican Bethania De la Cruz in 2011.
Raymariely Santos, setter of Indias of Mayaguez, finished second
in the voting with 51 points, including 7 first-place votes,
while Mexican Andrea Rangel of Humacao was third with 45 points. |
