Karym Coleman carries Belize to second win
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, December 8, 2014 - Belize beat El
Salvador 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24) with spectacular 32
points by Karym Coleman for their second win at the XVIII Men’s
Central American Cup at Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa.
Karym Coleman once again had a superb performance over the net,
scoring a tournament high of 32 points, 27 in spikes, 3 in
blocks and 2 aces.
It was a well disputed match and great spectacle from both
sides, with Belize taking a significant victory to improve their
win-loss record 2-2 and a total of seven points that puts them
back on the race to reach the Central American podium. El
Salvador continues win-less at 0-3 and one point.
Belize showed effectiveness on their offensive line with a wide
60-46 margin in kills and 8-7 in blocking. Both teams scored 4
points via serves and committed similar errors, Belize (34) and
El Salvador (30).
Joining Coleman, were middle blocker Gentle Shane with 13 points
and outside hitter Keith Castillo with 11. Francisco Hernandez
also did a swell job scoring 26 points for El Salvador and
Franklin Flores added 13.
Captain Anderson Elton of Belize said “in the first set we came
in very slow and cold; in the second set we got our momentum and
just continued to go. This win puts us back into contention, we
just have to be positive and win the next game”.
“It was a well disputed match; the win could have gone any way.
Belize is a very strong team and with good spikers whom we tried
to contain. We lost concentration due to a refs’ decision and in
the end a negative result” indicated Francisco Hernandez of El
Salvador. |
