Legends Joachim and Alvarado honored by FIVB

TIJUANA, Mexico, November 2, 2013 – Two legendary members of NORCECA Confederation were recipients of the FIVB Silver Collar, one of the highest honors the organization presents to individuals for distinguished services in favor of international volleyball.

The honors conferred during the first day of the XXII NORCECA Congress went to Jacques Joachim of Haiti and EdgarAlvarado Ardon, honorary vice presidents of NORCECA and two venerable figures in the region.

FIVB President Dr. Ary Graça presented the decorations and congratulated and thanked both Joachim and Alvarado for their invaluable contributions to the sport.

Joachim, one of the founders of NORCECA was for many years president of the Haitian National Volleyball Federation and also a former member of the FIVB Board of Administration.

Alvarado Ardon presided over the Costa Rican Volleyball Federation and later was president of the Central American Association of National Federations (AFECAVOL).

“I was really surprise by the honor,” Joachim said. “I received a decoration during the FIVB Congress held in Rome, Italy a few years ago, but this is the icing on the cake. I am really honored and happy and I want to thank FIVB for this decoration.”

“I was surprised with the homage and I felt goose bumps and butterflies in my stomach,” Alvarado Ardon said. “I stood up and started to walk thinking in my family. I think that my wife is also proud in heaven for this award.”
